DAK Americas stands ready to embrace the future. Headquartered in Charlotte, NC the company is a globally competitive supplier for the western hemisphere. DAK Americas focuses on a dual strategy of low cost production of commodity products and innovation for a continuous stream of specialty products.

History
2001 DAK Americas LLC is created as a new company, a wholly owned and operated subsidiary of Alpek S.A. de C.V., the petrochemicals and synthetic fibers business group of Alfa S.A.B. de C.V., one of Mexico's largest corporations.

Three main business units are established: Fibers, Monomers, and Resins.

At its creation, DAK Americas acquired manufacturing facilities in the U.S.A. from DuPont.  DuPont and Alfa, at that time had over a 25 year history of working together in Mexico, sharing technology, assets, and experiences in a variety of fiber and chemical related industries.

  • Cooper River Site, Charleston, SC – Polyester Staple Fibers
  • Cedar Creek Site, Fayetteville, NC – PET Resins

2003 DAK expands PET Resins capability with the construction of a new PET Resins facility at the Cooper River Site, near Charleston, SC.

2007 - DAK expands PET Resins capability with the construction of a new state-of-the-art PET Resins facility at the Cape Fear Site, near Wilmington, NC.

DAK Americas increases PET manufacturing capabilities and its abilities to supply PET Resin across the Americas with an acquisition of International PET businesses and manufacturing facilities from Eastman Chemical.

  • Zarate Site, Zarate, Argentina – PET Resins

2009 DAK Americas  establishes  a Specialty Polymer Business with the acquisition of the Technology from DuPont  to manufacture a select group of 2GT- based Polyester Resin Products formerly produced  as Crystar® products.

  • Array™ Specialty Polymers Business Created

2010 DAK Americas joins Shaw Industries, Inc to create the joint venture  company Clear Path Recycling, LLC and builds one of the largest post consumer PET Bottle Recycling facilities in North America producing RPET Flake for use by both parent companies in Sustainability initiatives for respective product lines.

2011 DAK Americas increased PET manufacturing capabilities and its abilities to supply. PET Resin across the Americas with an acquisition of PTA Monomer and PET Resins manufacturing facilities from Eastman Chemical in Columbia, SC, USA.

Additional acquisitions of PET Resins manufacturing facilities from Wellman, Inc were also completed in 2011:

DAK Americas continues its focus on sustainability, innovation and growth of its PET Resin, Polyester Staple Fiber, Specialty Polymers and  Monomer business units and its commitment to continually deliver the highest quality products and services to its customers.

Vision
DAK Americas is a vital part of Alpek S.A. de C.V. (a division of Alpek S.A. de C.V.) the second largest polyester ingredient supplier in the world. DAK Americas vision is to bring prosperity and renewal to the PET Resins and Polyester Staple Fibers value chains in the Americas, through leadership, products and people.

Strategy
DAK Americas is focused on a strategy of profitable growth & sales of terephthalic acid (TPA) including captive use in the Resins and Fiber businesses, as well as merchant sales. Integration, consolidation, and knowledge intensity are the key drivers for delivering trade leading low cost production, service, and value creation to customers of Monomers, Resins and Fibers in the Americas.

Safe and environmentally sound operations are a core value of DAK Americas. The Goal is to have “zero” injuries, accidents and environmental incidents. DAK Americas firmly believes that all injuries, accidents, and environmental incidents can and must be prevented.

DAK Americas will construct, maintain and operate its facilities such that employees, contractors, visitors, customers, communities and the environment are safe and protected. There are no tasks so important that DAK cannot and will not take the time to do them safely.

Sustainability

Fair and Respectful Treatment
